• Template system: template selection in the admin panel.
• Basic plugin system: inject custom code in templates, hooks (mostly solved by default Django signals).
• RSS Feeds for topics and categories.
• Easy install (using Docker).
• Search autocomplete (search-as-you-type).
• Category list: showing title, topic count and comment count.
• Launch hosting service at some point.
• followers/following

Other features that may be implemented:

• User groups & private categories: this is mostly solved by private topics, I don't find other uses for groups.
• Allow non-members to comment as anonymous.
• Topic tagging.
• Related topics list.

Great! Rooting for this project. I like the idea of Easy install (using Docker)

this is an inline code block

This is not an inline code block

Looks like that code block feature does not work yet.

Once the plugin system is in place, someone may build a tagging plugin. It would be cool .

I rather keep the Spirit's core small. It's very likely there wont be a new feature that it's not in the roadmap.

Err... templates are a very subjective thing. I don't like material design for example. The current template works well on mobile and it's relatively easy to modify and/or replace as every default template should be, I think.

Want to try this with django 1.8, so I'm starting to experiment with the experimental branch. Good idea or too broken to be useful? Should I be trying to use the profile branch instead?

Thanks

The experimental branch should be ok for new project, it's basically the v0.3.

Thanks Esteban. I was able to build it without problems, and I'm currently working with it.

I like it very much, and I hope to be able to deploy it on my site later this summer.

You might want to implement some features from flarum. They have a lot of new and wonderful features they've been adding into their beta.
