I have this hosted online and for some reason when a person registers the original activation email doesn't work. If they resend however the second works. After taking a quick look in the views it seems to be doing the same thing, but I don't have extensive knowledge of django.
Are you using mysql as database backend? there is a bug related to mysql in Spirit 0.1.1. You may wanna try the future branch it is fixed there.
